Is Microblading Right For Me?
That is the question. Microblading is a permanent makeup technique which is the process of manually scraping pigment into the skin using a tiny “blade” (actually a row of needles).
If you are looking to fix or correct over-tweezed brows, fill in any patchiness, fully create brows where you have none, or just amplify your natural eyebrows with some extra colour and fullness, microblading might be the answer you’re looking for.
When done properly, on ideal skin types microblading can last 12-16 months or longer before a touch up is needed. On not ideal skin types it may last 6 months to 1 year. Keep in mind the pigment implanted in your skin doesn’t always completely fade out if you never get a touch up, in some cases it may faintly stay in the skin for a number of years.
What is the ideal skin type for microblading?
· Have normal to dry skin
· No scarring in the eyebrow area
· No skin disorders (rosacea, eczema)
· Light – Medium skin tones
· If you do not scar easily or are not prone to keloid scars
If you have oily skin, a darker skin tone (fitzpatrick scale 5-6), any scarring in the brow area, problematic skin or an iron deficiency you may need to get an eyebrow tattooing technique that is done with a machine instead.
Another thing to consider is your natural eyebrow hair, if it’s very coarse or very dense in some areas and then completely gone in others (think thick dense head with no tail) even the most talented brow artists can’t always make microblading look blended into thick dense patches of hair, in which case something with shading added (combo brows or powder brows) would be a good solution.
Microblading is meant to be very subtle and natural looking as it mimics the look of hair strokes. If you wear little to no makeup or like a very natural look then microblading is a good choice. If you wear a moderate amount of makeup or more or if you like a bolder eyebrow look then you may want to think about a technique done with a machine. If you are a little more leery of the permanency of an eyebrow tattoo then microblading would be a good choice because it’s the least permanent of all the techniques.
