Classic Lashes VS Volume Lashes
I often get asked this question. What is the difference between classic and volume eyelash extensions?
Classic lashes are single false lashes placed on each natural lash. The ratio is 1:1 and the thickness of each false lash is anywhere from .10mm -.25mm but the most commonly used thickness is .15mm.
Volume lashes are fans placed on each natural lash. The ratio is anywhere from 2-20 lashes per fan depending on the thickness of the lashes. Regular volume lashes usually have a thickness of .07mm, .06mm or even .05mm and usually have about 2-6 lashes per fan. Mega volume lashes have a thickness of .03mm and can have anywhere from 7-20 lashes per fan. These fans however, are not pre-made. Each fan is made immediately before being dipped in glue and applied to a natural lash. This is why volume sets can cost more than classic sets because it’s quite a bit more work for your eyelash technician.
Classic lashes are considered to be more of a natural look because there are less of them, even though each lash is thicker. Volume lashes are more dramatic because of their fullness. However, each of these lash styles can be tailored to either natural looking or dramatic by changing the length and curl. The longer and curlier the more dramatic the look and obviously the shorter and less curled, the more natural the look. Another popular style of lashes are hybrids; hybrid lashes are a mixture of classic and volume in a set. They are a nice middle ground on the natural-dramatic scale.
Classic eyelashes are glued to either the top, side or bottom of a lash but only “sit” on the lash. Volume lashes are usually glued to either the top or the bottom of a natural lash but because there are multiple lashes and the glue is still wet when applied, they actually “wrap” around the natural lash and as a result tend to have longer retention.
Overall, classic lashes are more natural looking and cheaper and volume lashes are more dramatic and more expensive. Everyone has their own preference of lash style that’s suits their lifestyle and their look best. Sometimes you have to try out different styles/types to find out what works for you!
